The types of information that a manufacturer can share about a dietary supplement can be confusing. Dietary supplements are only able to make one of three types of claims:
Health claims require years of regulatory approval and during that time the product is unavailable to its customers. Nutrient claims are of little value because these claims only provide information about what is contained in the supplement and contain no information about how that supplements functions in the body.
So we decided that at Standardized Supplements we needed to perform the work necessary to make structure/function claims for all our products. We found this type of information to be the most helpful and valuable for our customers because these claims provide information about how these products are designed to function in the body.
Any other types of claims are not allowable according to the FDA. Further information on the types of allowable claims can be found at National Institutes of Health Office of Dietary Supplements. Visit Website »
